We are documenting the curriculum using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework. The overarching big ideas serve as the intellectual foundation of the curriculum: they guide the selection of knowledge, the way it is structured and sequenced, and they inform its modes of presentation and pedagogical strategies employed. Our aim is to design a comprehensive educational experience oriented toward the achievement of the following big ideas:
- A good life caused by Allah, as revealed in Quran16:97.
- Maximizing our potential given by Allah.
- Attaining and continually enhancing well-being.
- Using multiple methods (multiplex methodology) for limitless excellence in knowledge creation, judgment, increasing rizq, and achieving goals.
- Propagating Islam by exemplifying virtuous character.
Our curriculum is designed to realize these big ideas through learning experiences that integrate didactic instruction, halaqah, and personal life application. These experiences support learners in overcoming the inclinations of the nafs and the thinking traps of shayṭān by:
- Remembering and reflecting on knowledge of Iman.
- Making deliberate effort to fulfil the conditions that lead to guidance from Allah or in other words, divine light shines on the qalb (heart).
- Determining the proper place of things based on Quran and Hadith.
Through trained human will, we acquire the character strengths of those loved by Allah, which enable us to live a good life, maximize our potential, attain and enhance our well-being, and achieve limitless excellence in knowledge creation, judgment, an increase in rizq and fulfillment of our goals.
